What it is

Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound to deposit precise thermal energy at set depths beneath the skin — including the SMAS, the same connective layer tightened during a surgical facelift. That energy prompts the body to contract existing collagen and produce new collagen over the following months. The 'Prime' platform adds real-time ultrasound imaging, so the doctor sees exactly where the energy is placed rather than treating blind.

What it treats

  • A heavy or lowering brow, and hooding of the upper eyelid
  • Softening definition along the jawline and early jowls
  • Laxity under the chin and on the neck
  • Crêpey texture on the décolletage
  • Overall loss of firmness in patients not ready for surgery

The procedure

  1. 01

    Consultation & mapping

A doctor assesses your skin laxity and facial structure, and maps the precise zones and depths to be treated.

  2. 02

    Preparation

The skin is cleansed and ultrasound gel applied. A topical numbing cream is available on request for comfort.

  3. 03

    Imaging & delivery

Using real-time imaging, the doctor delivers focused ultrasound line by line. You may feel brief warmth as collagen-stimulating energy is deposited.

  4. 04

    Aftercare

There is no dressing and no recovery period. You leave able to wear makeup and return immediately to your day.

Downtime & sensation

Ultherapy Prime requires no downtime. Some patients notice mild redness, slight swelling or tenderness to touch for a few hours to a couple of days, all of which settle on their own. Because there are no needles and no incisions, you can return to work, exercise and social plans the same day.

Device & origin

We use a genuine Ultherapy Prime system from Merz Aesthetics, with current-generation transducers and real-time DeepSEE imaging. Ultherapy is FDA-cleared for lifting of the brow, submental area and neck, and for improving lines on the décolletage — the only ultrasound platform with that breadth of clearance.

Questions, answered

Does it hurt?
Sensation varies by area and depth. Most patients describe brief moments of heat as energy is delivered, which pass immediately. Topical numbing is available, and the doctor can adjust settings for comfort.
When will I see results?
Some lift is visible early, but the meaningful change builds as new collagen forms — typically over two to three months. Results generally last twelve to eighteen months, and many patients return annually.
How is it different from Thermage?
Ultherapy uses ultrasound to lift deeper structural layers; Thermage uses radiofrequency to tighten the skin's surface layers. They address different things and are often complementary. The doctor will advise which — or both — suits your goals.
Who is it not for?
Ultherapy is not a substitute for a facelift in advanced laxity, and is not suitable during pregnancy or over active skin infections or certain implants in the area. A consultation determines suitability.
How many sessions do I need?
Most patients have a single session per area, with maintenance once a year. Your plan is decided individually after assessment.
